Attention:::::::::
Hi,
I am one of those people that has been fortunate enough in life to have been brought up in a safe, loving environment where there was always beautiful food on the table, holidays and plenty of good times.
I am one of those people that has been fortunate enough in life to have been brought up in a safe, loving environment where there was always beautiful food on the table, holidays and plenty of good times.
It saddens me to see that so many children do not have the same experiences. They are abused, in poverty and suffer from illnesses that affect their ability to have a normal children – and they are right here in Melbourne. Often, so many of us, choose to ignore it or are not exposed to the real lives of some of our more underprivileged children.
Three years ago, I was approached by Ozchild to become an ambassador. I feel incredibly privileged to have been invited and to be able to see how Ozchild changes the lives of underprivileged children in Victoria.
Through my association with Ozchild, I have met families who are in poverty, children who are abused and tireless workers who open their homes to other people’s children to offer a safe haven. Every person who I have met has touched my life is some way or another and now is the time, for me to see what else I can do. To that end, I am joining forces with Andrew Thomas from Thomas Duryea to host a breakfast to raise funds for these children in May this year.
We will also be producing a table top book to help raise funds.
The Book: Shine
Ozchild’s slogan is ‘every child deserves the chance to shine’. We will be producing book that is about shining and the Australian’s out there that have received recognition by public adoration like sportstars, entertainers, authors and business people that have shined very brightly in the public arena.
The people that have caught my eye include Greg Norman, Lleyton Hewitt, Nicole Kidman, Hugh Jackman, Bryce Courtney, Nick Reinwoldt, Andrew Forrest, Bob Oakley, Elle McPherson, and a number of other people that have excelled in their chosen fields. They have all shined!
All I ask of them is,
- A small quote to go inside the book written on a white piece of paper and accompanied with their signature
- A picture of a child shining taken by a Australian Photographer will be on the accompanying page
- That we can mention their name in promoting the book at an upcoming breakfast
- That they take one minute of your time to check out www.ozchild.org.au
Their contribution to this book will help raise a targeted $10,000 for Ozchild. It may not seem like much, but it is enough to change the lives of some of the people that Ozchild cares for.
Ozchild
Ozchild works with some of the most socially and psychologically damaged children in our society, as well as with children who are disadvantaged in other ways – children with learning and language difficulties, children with a disability, children with mental health issues or young people whose future job prospects are very limited. We are also aware that children face new forms of disadvantage such as childhood obesity and cyber bullying that are emerging as a consequence of changes to the way we live in contemporary society and we are aware we need to be working towards minimising their impact. To meet these various needs, we work in most of the contexts that shape children’s lives -the home, the school environment and in the community. In short, we believe that every child deserves the chance to shine and we help underprivileged children believe this.
If anyone can help me be put in touch with these people and other inspirational people, please let me know.
Warmest regards,
Mellissah Smith
