Google Turns 21 Today

Today, September 27, 2019, everyone’s favorite search engine turned 21 years old. What began as a merely an idea, a paper published by Stanford PhD students Sergey Brin and Larry Page called “The Anatomy of a Large-Scale Hypertextual Web Search Engine”, has become a multibillion-dollar company and the most popular search engine by a wide margin. Not only is it a search engine, but Google has its own browser with its very own suite of services like Gmail, Google Docs, Sheets and cloud storage with Google Drive. In a matter of merely 21 years, Google has become the primary way that people search the internet. How did this happen? Now that Google is of legal drinking age in the US, let’s take a look at how they got where they are today.

Being a business owner has many benefits; you can make sh*t happen, turn up when you feel like it, feel empowered to do anything you set your mind to, fulfil dreams, make millions (if you work hard and are successful) and in general, you have an ability to change lives, that of your own and others. It's a pretty neat gig if I may say so myself.

The negatives, well, there are a few but one of them has never been that I didn't want to get out of bed and turn up to work. Instead, I wake up early and make my way to the office as fast and efficiently as possible.

What I find challenging is the same things most small to medium-sized business owners find; people management, enough hours in the day to do all the things that you want to do and find the right talent. The latter being the single biggest issue I think most agencies find today.

Be careful, be very careful

Whatever happened to boardgames?
Writing a marketing strategy today, it dawned on me that not enough space is left on a marketing strategy for ‘word of mouth’ marketing.
