A few mistakes we make when hiring people

We often find ourself short staffed as our company is growing at a fast pace. We feel as though we are constantly in catch up mode, yet somehow we deliver for our clients and continue to produce work of a high standard.

Behind the scenes it's a different matter. There is pressure and a constant reminder of the fact that there are so many things that still need to be done.

I am a strong believer in culture and finding the right fit when it comes to hiring employees. I handed over the reigns a long time ago to staff so that they can pick their own colleagues and it works mostly, but doesn't when they too find pressure in finding a person fast. They miss the small steps that always tend to be the most important out of the mix.

20 Instagram accounts that will inspire you

"Every day do something that will inch you closer to a better tomorrow"

Inspiration is something everyone needs and admires.

I've been terribly inspired of late. It all started with the beautiful and hugely talented Kristina Karlsson sending me a gift pack of inspirational products from her Kikki.k range.

I am completely and utterly commitment phobic on every topic. I won't lie it is the truth.

So, in lieu of my new years' resolutions I bought a house. I have looked around for the dream house for some time and couldn't find it. Quite frankly, I just didn't like other's people's designs or renovations.

10 big mistakes entrepreneurs make

If you are an entrepreneur, and not a someone who thinks that you are always right, then you would realize just how many mistakes you make - usually on a daily basis.

We are human and mostly we shrug it off and learn from them.

Entrepreneurs are renowned for making mistakes because when most of us started, there were no courses on how to be an entrepreneur, and mentorship was harder to come by then it is today.

10 Mistakes that many entrepreneurs make:

Why you should outsource your marketing team

As the world continues to change dramatically, marketing is a career that is becoming increasingly difficult to keep on top of.

As a company, we are invested in training and developing our people to ensure that they don't lag behind with a majority of marketers today. This is further endorsed by the fact that in comparison to the US, the update of marketing automation in Australia has been dissimal. It's darn-right embarrassing that marketers or whoever is holding the budget have not yet adopted marketing automation as a way in which to feed the sales funnel and give sales people hot leads rather than cold ones.

Outsourcing your marketing has advantages and disadvanges.

10 things I'm looking for in a partner

I never shy away from disclosing what it is that I am looking for in this life. I am the first one to call out anyone pretending to be happy alone as a single person, because seriously, life is so much better when you have someone in it to share the highs and lows with you.

The poison that one person can throw on a company is insurmountable, all made by humans of course in the form of the internet. Yet, we all breathe faith into common sense as a whole and how one complainer, may in fact be the only.

Back in my fathers generation, one bad egg would not have crippled a business, though in these times it would. And so how the world has changed.

There isn't a leader in the world that isn't driven. They may not be driven by the same things, but they are still very much driven by something that is extraordinary and takes them to a place where they know that failure is not an option.

The reality of international export

I export marketing services. I started a few years back when I decided to expand Marketing Eye into new markets. The most suitable market after much research was America, so I did what any buddying entrepreneur would do and I completed a market research study to make sure that if I started a business there, it was not set up to fail.

I'm a part-time leader in Atlanta. Actually, less than a part time leader - I am here when I can be but mostly I am running around the world doing other "stuff".

Our brand in Atlanta is growing. I am constantly going out and meeting people who know who we are, what we do and follow us on some sort of social media platform.

It's not by accident that we have grown our business here and it can largely be attributed to a few things:

Why you should reimagine your business

For years, Marketing Eye stayed with the same brand messages and continued to push through to the market key points that we believed were different to what everybody else was saying and doing.

The problem is that when you are online everyone can see for themselves what you are saying and doing, and for competitors to copy, it really is quite simple.

The world keeps changing. I use to hate change but as a marketer I have learned to love it. Move my seat one day to another, I am all ready to get up and look at the new perspective that is put in front of me.

I use to love a PC but my team wanted Mac's because they were sexier, so I reluctantly changed last. Now, I have no idea how to use a PC and my Mac is joined at my hip.

There is so much to love about being headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia.

The peaches, the honey, the friendliness, the cost of living and the people. Not so much the Grits but I think that's an acquired taste a bit like vegemite.

With so many Fortune 500 companies headquartered here; The Home Depot, UPS, The Coca-Cola Company, Delta Airlines, Aflac, The Southern Company, Genuine Parts Company, First Delta Corporation, AGCO, Rock Ten Company, Sun Trust Banks, HD Supply Holdings and I could really go on and on - but I think you get the picture.

I can't believe I am saying this only a few days after I reminded my blog readers that I refuse to reward bad behavior - that I am in fact, not going to put any more energy into someone who I can't change or rectify their bad behavior. At some stage, people just won't change. They will laugh it off and pretend it didn't happen.

Is it possible to beat a business bully?

This week I encountered a business bully, except it was personal and they just happened to also be a business person. Someone with deep pockets who tried to "scare me" as he put it. He finally apologized but I have thought deeply about how often in my career this has happened, largely because I am a woman or a small business owner. There are a lot of dishonest people around. People who deliberately don't pay bills as they know it costs more to sue someone, or those who are just not nice people and want to be bullies because they get kicks out of it.

I use to be scared. I use to get anxiety over it. I use to fall apart and perhaps even shed a few tears.

Wow! I mean wow! I just arrived in the office in Atlanta and I am completely and utterly amazed at the talent and sheer determination of our Marketing Eye team in Atlanta.

They are not only the best looking team in all of Atlanta, they are also the smarter and most competent.

Who would have thought that they could put together a team like this all by themselves and start running the business like I always dreamed it would be run.

Live your life on your own terms

If I had a magic ball, I would look deeply into it and thin hard about what it was that I wanted to get out of life.

This morning I had breakfast at The Mercer Kitchen in Soho with my friend Kristina Karlsson, you know that phenomenal businesswoman who blows every other Australian businesswoman out of the water.

Is it good for you to be passionate?

Bad relationships happen. They are inevitable. Particularly when you have been around for a while.

The more passionate you are about a person or anything really, the more it affects you and sends you a little crazier than normal. But mostly, logic comes back into play and you tend to correct whatever it is that went wrong.
