Maritime consulting firm Thompson Clarke Shipping has announced the appointment of former Lloyds List DCN editor Sandy Galbraith as a director.

Thompson Clarke managing director Richard Stevens said Mr Galbraith's appointment was an important part of the firm's succession planning and national focus.

”I expect that Mr Galbraith will make a significant contribution to Thompson Clarke's growth strategy and will play a pivotal role as a director based in the firm's Melbourne offices. His experience and high profile in the maritime industry will contribute to the firm's growth, particularly in Victoria,” Mr Stevens said.

Mr Galbraith, a former editor of Lloyd's List DCN, has worked at Fairplay International in London.

He replaces Massimo Soprano, who is set to depart to take up a position in Dubai, and will be responsible for the firm’s Melbourne office and overseeing its commercial relations in Victoria.

Mr Stevens paid tribute to Mr Soprano, saying the firm was supportive of his new career move.

“For the last three years, Mr Soprano has been an important member of the Thompson Clarke team in his management role and as a firm director.

“The opportunity to work in Dubai during these exciting times for the Middle East’s development as an international force will see Massimo expand his experience,” he said.

Thompson Clarke Shipping provides a range of advisory services for shipping companies, ports and terminals, and government agencies, with a network of alliance partners across the Pacific region.
