When the time is right, it’s right!
Think back to a previous blog about Gene Krantz who led Appollo 13 into space. Every single person had to be not only doing their jobs, but doing it to perfection to have a man walk on the moon. The space ship had to be mechanically sound and every person needed to have the knowledge and expertise to do their part of the job. It had to be perfect and then some.
When is it the right time? Getting your business plan in order and aligning it with your marketing strategy, training your people to do their jobs and then getting their buy-in to lift their performances to a whole new level to achieve an end goal, is hard work and incredibly frustrating. But…and it is a big BUT – when you do get it right, the feeling is like nothing you have ever experienced before. All of a sudden, all of those butterflies in your stomach disappear and there is a feeling of calm and tranquility. People do their jobs and you don’t second guess them. Instead, you hear what they have to say, and when they walk away, you feel this smile start to form on your face because they are doing their jobs better than you could do yourself.
Small business is hard work. There is no hiding the fact, however, we cannot let size alone be our reason for not reaching our business goals. Setting in place the right people, processes, technology, financial infrastructure and marketing strategy is all that is needed. Sometimes it will need refining, but if you can inspire your people to take ownership and deliver outstanding results for ‘their brand‘ then, you are almost there.
Sales and lead generation campaigns are paramount, because you will need money to finance growth. So if you are not dedicating the time this area deserves to its performance, then think of ways or people that will. If you have the right processes, people and product/service – the rest is simple. Where so many small business owners fail is that they never have time to do it all. Making time or finding the right people to dedicate time to the area of your business that is your shortfall, will change your businesses success overnight. Do you know what area that is? How can you make changes today, to succeed tomorrow?
