Are You Sick of Marketing?

More to the point, are you sick of doing your own marketing and not focusing on your business? In every business development meeting I have, I always ask “who’s doing your marketing now?” Often I hear that the founder is performing all if not most of the current marketing activities. Nine times out of ten they are trying to: run the business/grow the business, manage staff, manage payroll, come up with new product ideas, and more, all while doing what they can with marketing. It’s too much for a growing business.

I had a humbling experience today and I want to share with you just what that meant to me as an entrepreneur and founder.

Marketing Eye has been around for more than 10 years. We were not an overnight success, but have steadily grown a very successful business in Australia and in the US (Atlanta, Dallas, Seattle, Denver).

Building a business has never been easy and every single time I think that its got its groove going, I am awakened with a rude shock. It seems that the business is always growing, changing, adapting and needing a new influx of ideas or improvements in the way we do business.

Are all business women crazy?

"All women are crazy and all men are stupid," said a well-known author when I recently met them at Atlanta's St Regis Hotel for a cocktail.

How true. I know many women will throw their arms up in the air at this one and it is a gross generalisation - but if you think about it, it actually is closer to the truth than most women entrepreneurs would like to admit.

While I try in earnest to be consistent, without too many overwhelming changes to my personality, I think most people who know me well, would say I am a tad crazy - just like all my other female friends. I won't react quite like I use to when it comes to anything emotional or otherwise, because as you get older, the chances are you can hold it in a little more, but YES I do over-think things and I definitely react irrationally at times when I would prefer to not have reacted at all.

No matter who you are, at times, as a small business owner, you will get stressed.

It's how you deal with it that counts.

Which has me thinking. I am what I affectionately call a "stress pet". Someone, who stresses a lot. If not daily, bi-daily. I find things to stress about that sometimes deserve my attention, and then others that certainly don't.

Managing stress has always been an issue and I have over time tried everything. But just like any diet, or new health regime, you need to keep with it long after the actual decision to do it in the first place and constantly remind yourself that it is something that requires ongoing work, not just a quick fix.

Stress, does it go with the territory?

Does anyone else feel stressed, often?

I remember when life was easy, and the most stress I would have was getting a parking fine. That was 20 years ago!

Owning a small business can be the most rewarding job in the world, but as rewarding as it is, if you don't actively manage stress, it can sometimes over take you.

Being 100% on-game, every day is impossible. Whilst I am naturally a spirited individual, I feel overwhelmed by the whole work/life/home balance. Am I alone, or is this a common issue for small business owners. So, how do you manage it?

Yoga?
Eating well?
Exercise?
Meditating?
Having a pet in the workforce?
Being organised?
Life coach?
Therapist?

This blog is interested in sharing with its followers tips on who to destress and manage stress in every day life for a small business owner. Do you have ways to improve stress management? We want to hear all about it!
