I can't believe I am saying this only a few days after I reminded my blog readers that I refuse to reward bad behavior - that I am in fact, not going to put any more energy into someone who I can't change or rectify their bad behavior. At some stage, people just won't change. They will laugh it off and pretend it didn't happen.

Is it possible to beat a business bully?

This week I encountered a business bully, except it was personal and they just happened to also be a business person. Someone with deep pockets who tried to "scare me" as he put it. He finally apologized but I have thought deeply about how often in my career this has happened, largely because I am a woman or a small business owner. There are a lot of dishonest people around. People who deliberately don't pay bills as they know it costs more to sue someone, or those who are just not nice people and want to be bullies because they get kicks out of it.

I use to be scared. I use to get anxiety over it. I use to fall apart and perhaps even shed a few tears.

Live your life on your own terms

If I had a magic ball, I would look deeply into it and thin hard about what it was that I wanted to get out of life.

This morning I had breakfast at The Mercer Kitchen in Soho with my friend Kristina Karlsson, you know that phenomenal businesswoman who blows every other Australian businesswoman out of the water.

Is it good for you to be passionate?

Bad relationships happen. They are inevitable. Particularly when you have been around for a while.

The more passionate you are about a person or anything really, the more it affects you and sends you a little crazier than normal. But mostly, logic comes back into play and you tend to correct whatever it is that went wrong.

Never give away everything

Please keep your pants on, and never give away everything, it's as simple as that.

Too many entrepreneurs get so desperate that they give away the kitchen sink when in fact all their prospect wanted to know was that they could do a good job.

As an entrepreneur, it's hard to start a business and to keep it going year-after-year profitability creating value and jobs. But many do so very successful, and yet those who fail seem to do so falling often on their own sword.

A game-changing piece of advice

I am not stupid. At least I don't think I am.

I do try to listen to what others have to say and when someone gives me advice, I usually take it.

I have these two men in my life that are mentors. They are the two men throughout the world that I hold in the highest business esteem. Yes, the world. Not just Australia, but the world.

Their names are Jack Cowin and Peter Ivany. If you don't know who they are, Google them. It will be well worth your while. They are not your average 'smart cookies', they are briliant businessmen - beyond the brilliance of anyone else I have ever met (and I have met people worth hundreds of billions of dollars and spent quality time with them). I think these two guys are better.

The Urban Dictionary defines the Kardashian effect as “The practice of caring about D list celebrities who have no talent and contribute nothing to society.” However there is another more positive way at looking at this phenomenon, and that is to examine how the Kardashians became so popular on the first place.

In April this year, China’s Tencent bought a 14.6 percent stake in Glu Mobile for $126 million. The purchase has been put down to the Kardashian effect after the mobile game publisher struck gold last year with Kim Kardashian: Hollywood, a game that has the endorsement of reality TV celebrity Kim Kardashian.

The sharks' prey was emitting a nervousness thought impossible before they showed themselves. Beads of sweat popping and streaking. Hands raised to wipe their brow.  Vocal chords faltering. Knees buckling under pressure. That's when the sharks go in for the kill.

That’s the basic principle of a number of business-based television shows, Dragon's DenShark Tank and Next Den Gen. The Sharks comprise of four entrepreneurs, with a combined wealth of somewhere in the billions of dollars who must judge the business presentations of ‘wanna-be’ entrepreneurs.

What Jennifer Lopez can teach us all

I like a good a biography, but to be honest, I wasn't expecting too much from "True Love" by Jennifer Lopez as she isn't exactly my favorite singer/actress/entertainer.

I don't dislike her, but I feel that she is a bit too stereotypical "famous" for my liking and it has taken away from the talents that she has.

Like all good stories, Jennifer's is a rags to riches tale. In fact, she grew up in the Bronx and now is as far from the Bronx as any one person could be.

I bought her book because it was sitting on the shelf and I had all the other books that I could possibly want to purchase at the airport newsagency already on my shelf.

I picked it up reluctantly, but was pleasantly surprised as I flicked through page after page.

What I learned:

Creating a blog can be difficult, but building a strong social media following for your blog is even more challenging. Here are some tips.

What comes first the blog or the social media following? This is dependent on the individual. For example, some individuals already have a strong online presence through their social media accounts. They might already have a large following on their Instagram posting about lifestyle, and want to take it that next step further. They then create a blog geared towards lifestyle, so they are able to write more in depth posts.
