Is perception a reality?
Daily I receive updates on Twitter, Facebook and Linkedin from people that have received publicity whether it is through an online blog or in the media sprouting how successful they are. The first couple of "pushes" of publicity, I applaud and genuinely think "good on that person". Then when it keeps coming in what can sometimes be "D-grade" versions of media that perhaps only a few people ever get to read, I start to think "oh, this person is looking for attention or needs people to think they are successful".
Which, might I add, may not be the case at all, but it is just my immediate perception if I don't know any better about the person.

Sometimes, I find reading about people interesting and there may be some thought provoking content or perhaps a piece of wisdom that I consider. But mostly, I don't read past the few couple of "pushes" and then if they keep coming, I delete them or restrict their access to my social media and/or email accounts.
When we work with a small business that has an interesting story to tell, we almost always encourage them to seek publicity, which we do gladly for them. If they have a new product or are doing something particularly remarkable, then it's interesting and if we find it interesting, so do other people (or at least we think so).
With small businesses, it can mean the difference of getting their message out to a larger audience of people in a time and cost efficient method.
Blogs are also encouraged amongst clients that can benefit from creating content to their target audience and obtaining a thought-leadership positioning in the market. With blogs, there is plenty of "pushing" as we all know, because once you have invested the time in writing them, you need to get them out there. Twitter, Linkedin, Facebook and other push related social media platforms are great ways to do this, but at what point do we say "hang on a minute, they won't be interested?"
What is your opinion? I am interested in hearing it. Do you push out each and every blog? Do you seek publicity and share it on every possible social media platform you can get your fingers on? What works and what does not? Please share.

11 Apr 2013I think that there's no point "Pushing" each and every blog post if the platforms on which you share it isn't targeted. I reckon it would be better to play with the headline (the wording), the keywords and #hashtags - to "Pull" genuinely-interested viewers and readers instead! The focus should be to make it easy for search engines to find the posts! It all comes back to SEO!
