We are only half way through the year, and it's been quite the journey. Like many entrepreneurs, I have found that spending more time with the Atlanta team has had many advantages. In 2017, I had only visited a couple of times, but this year I have increased my time in the office, and it's been really great from a lot of fronts.

The year in review at Marketing Eye Atlanta


When you look at a business from the outset, it is important to view it without bias. So, this marketing agency blog will definitely do that; warts and all.

The Marketers and Creatives

The team at Marketing Eye Atlanta have been together for a while. 75% of the staff have been with the company for 2 years or more, and you can see just how much they have grown because of this. We are adding to the team at the moment, and that is exciting, scary and needed. As we grow, we need more resources, and it takes time to onboard employees. Our team that has been together for a long time are seriously talented, connected, and they really want to be the best marketers and creatives possible. They do what it takes to constantly stay ahead of the game and are kind enough to have let me spend last year building technology, and not working so much in the business.

Team Bond

We are incredibly close. When I arrive, they all go out of their way to make me feel welcome and loved. When I leave, I get hugs from everyone. It is really quite special. This mutual respect is something that is strong throughout our offices, so they have become the custodians of making sure that when someone slips through the cracks and doesn't have the same values, that they are shown the door. Values are everything and kindness is not something we have to try and do, it's something that comes naturally to everyone.

Skills

Wow! They blow my mind with new ways to do things and are always bringing new technologies to the table. They have found the healthy balance of education, training and development, and also doing enough billable hours as marketing and creative consultants.

Goodbye's

They hire, and they fire their own staff. We sadly said goodbye to a beautiful, kind and talented website developer who followed her dreams and became a coach. At Marketing Eye, we put our employees dreams first, and the company second. We encourage people to follow their dreams and are appreciative of the time they spend with us. They stay in touch and join us for drinks and Christmas parties. The replacement was not so good. I never met them or spoke to them, but basically, they were not able to do the job, and therefore the team sat them down and asked: "what is going on?". It is really difficult to have hard conversations with people, but sometimes it has to be done otherwise clients work will not be delivered. As the company is a flat organizational structure, it is important that they have the ability to hire and fire without having to consult with me. I trust their judgement and often ask their opinions on things because they make sound business and people decisions.

Growth

We work on a basis primarily of 12-month contracts. That means that quite often a chunk of accounts finish at the same time and new ones start. It was a great experience for the team to go through this when they didn't have an inside sales person on staff because it reminded them of how important it is to ensure that the pipeline is full. The conversation in January was really powerful as within 6 weeks the team acquired 18 new clients. The spurt of growth also meant that they had to manage onboarding a new staff member and they held off for the right person, rather than rushing into it. That was such a fantastic experience for them to have as it made them understand our business and that of our clients. It also was the right decision with hiring as they found the perfect person who will be with the team for a long time. We are about to do it all over again and take on another 30 clients over the next 6 months. This type of growth requires strategic planning, of which the team feel they are able to draw upon their previous experience and ensure that the growth transition is seamless. I can't wait to watch the bunch of millennials do this, but have full confidence that they don't need management or micromanaging and their decisions will be great for the business.

Energy

You would think when staff have been with a company for a long time that everything would become routine. Not at Marketing Eye! The energy levels are commented on by almost everyone I meet that have met them first. They are excited by life and have the best of every world. They love their jobs and the people they work with. It's just magical to watch.

I'm grateful for what I have and thankful that they gave me a year out of the business to do what I needed to do. I've accomplished more by doing that than I ever imagined possible. This year it's time to transition the company and seriously play in the technology space. What we do next will be our legacy in the marketing industry, something that takes our company and people to the next level.
