In times of tragedy, our country unites. The Orlando shooting, classified as the deadliest mass shooting in the US has been mourned by people all over the nation. Glued to our TV’s, computers we all watched as this tragedy unfolded. In times like these it is important as a marketer to be certain you comment/ recognize the situation delicately. You don’t want to be perceived as insensitive or as ignoring the current issues. Pay attention to how others have reacted and use your influence in a positive way.

A bride in India has her hands painted with henna two nights before her wedding. In Chile it is socially acceptable and preferred to arrive late to events. In Japan the number four is avoided at all costs for the similarity in sound to their word meaning “for death.” Being interrupted while speaking is common and not considered rude in Brazil.

From falling, we remember how to pick ourselves up and keep on walking. In life, we are a bunch of complex creatures, and whether we admit it to ourselves or not, we have many ups and downs on our road to our next destination and beyond.I've had a pretty amazing life. I know that I have been privileged in so many ways; phenomenal family, great loyal long term friends, new friends and great loves. In many ways, I was prized with a place on the podium.

But with that comes a lot of 'stuff' and not all of it is great. As a child I remember being a bit of a silent dreamer. You know the one who never really tells anyone what their dreams are, and keeps them all to themselves. I had good friends then, and many are still the same friends that I have now. They have seen me evolve from a shy child, to an adult comfortable in her own skin.

I've failed more times than I can remember.

Do you know someone who always has to have the last word in a conversation or an argument? Everyone has come across this type of person and knows how frustrating or plain sad it is when you see it.

Having the last word is closely associated with ego. Egomaniacs always have to have the last word. It gives them a feeling of power, as if they immediate draw all of the power of the person they are communicating with and become powerful due to it.

We all aspire to achieve great things and to have a beautiful line up of accomplishments for our parents to boast about at dinner with their friends. Financial stability and a luxurious lifestyle is always a plus and often the incentive that pushes us past the stress, sweat and tears. The journey to success isn’t an easy one, and it’s even harder climbing that mountain solo.

I have just spent over a week in regional and rural North Queensland. In the past few years, I have travelled north for a couple of reasons, but namely for work and for a charity I set up in the rural township of Charters Towers.

It's been humbling and a great reminder of what is important in life.

More than money can buy

At 6:05 AM, when that dreaded alarm clock goes off, all you really want to do is stay in bed. Nevertheless, you begrudgingly peel off the sheets and carry on with your day only to overeat at lunchtime and feel your energy levels plummet even more. By 3:24pm you are completely ready to give up on all of your dreams for a 30 minute nap, every, single, day.

My friend, it is time to break out of this cycle. You are merely a mortal, so tiredness is inevitable, but don't succumb to the monotony of routine. Motivation is the best defense against lethargy.

So let’s explore how to stay motivated all day long!

Today is April 1st. Everyone knows that means it’s April Fools’ Day or All Fools’ Day. This is a day to “duck and cover” if you work or live with pranksters.

April Fools’ has been a tradition for centuries, possibly dating back to France in 1582. People didn't want to start the new year on January 1st and continued to celebrate it at the end of March/beginning of April. These people became the butt of jokes and hoaxes.

We all set goals, and strive to make the most of our time. You however, you exceed expectations. You are organized, you are punctual, a true hard worker and then your car shuts down. Your identity gets stolen during the peak of tax season, the plumbing in your home is depleting uncontrollably and your love life conveniently decides to crumble.

Oh how tempting it is to lay in bed in fetal position and compose symphonies of self-pity, but your boss just texted to inform you that your deadlines just got moved forward.
It’s easy to call this a series of unfortunate events, but in all reality, it’s just called life.

Chaos is inevitable but manageable nonetheless.

First step. Stop everything.

What ever you do don’t be afraid to fail!

Don’t be afraid to try something new, because you’re scared that you aren’t going to be good at it. As Nike says “Just Do It”! People fail all the time and when they do they only become stronger.  It is because of the mistakes we make we learn what and what not to do moving forward. It goes off the phrase “you don’t know what you don’t know and you wont know until you try”

Fear and insecurities are the single biggest threats when becoming successful. Fear it’s self can significantly paralyze you and your business growth.
