I won't lie. I walked into Spanx yesterday and was completely and utterly in awe. Wow! Seriously, Wow! The wide hallways, the high ceilings, the writing on the wall, the pictures, the space, the innovation, the courtyard, the conference room and the kitchen - were a dream.

Sara Blakely is not only the youngest self-made female billionaire in the world today, she is also known widely as the nicest, kindest and most giving. On top of that, she is beautiful, has an unbelievable family and is changing the world, not just our figures when we put on a pair of Spanx to shape the areas we don't want the world to see.

I am the first to admit that at times I have wanted to tear my hair out over some of the behaviors of millennials. So much so, I have sworn over and over again to never hire another millennial only to find that my next recruit is in fact a millennial. Why? Because that person was the best person for the job at that point in time.

The landscape and overall persona of our society has changed dramatically. Lately, businesses are searching adamantly for answers as it comes to employee retention. Business managers across the globe are seeing turnover rates rising higher and higher. Interns, employees, and prospective employees seem to be rather disengaged when it comes to their jobs. A term to define people born within a certain year range has never been associated with such negativism before Millennials. Every generation is known for having a stereotype or label placed on them, but none have come even close to what other generations are saying about the Millennial generation. Back in the good ole’ days we used to speak to each other completely differently than we do now. Granted I am a millennial and aren’t that old, but I can definitely see a vast change in the way our parents and ourselves interacted as kids. We conversate informally and we internalize it now. This has caused marketing professionals to make vast adjustments across the board and take an unusual route to engaging the younger generation.

Having the benefit of being part of a global entrepreneurial friendship group, made up mostly from people through my travels around world, I am always interested in different models in which employees are remunerated or attracted to an organization.

What works well for one company, may not for another. The big corporate beast can be a lure and it can also deter the best talent - depending on what is most important to any particular individual.
