From Failure, We Learn To Be Successful
But with that comes a lot of 'stuff' and not all of it is great. As a child I remember being a bit of a silent dreamer. You know the one who never really tells anyone what their dreams are, and keeps them all to themselves. I had good friends then, and many are still the same friends that I have now. They have seen me evolve from a shy child, to an adult comfortable in her own skin.
I've failed more times than I can remember.
I have made terrible decisions - often, only to learn from them. I have had friends for a reason, a season and some for a lifetime. The latter I cherish with all of my heart and soul.
I was lucky enough to learn right from wrong as a child, taking these lessons through my entire life. It's important that everyone knows what is right and what is wrong, and can distinguish between the two. So many people don't and let their ego's get in the way of being good people. I can safely say that I am not one of them.
My parents also taught me to be who I am, not who I want to be.
To be happy with what god has given me, and to never want what someone else has. I can safely say, that that is the case of who I am and without that foundation, I wouldn't be where I am today. There's no cosmetic changes, no looking in the mirror and seeing someone who I don't like, and no pretense. I come from Charters Towers... so pretending that I don't seems like a lot of hard work. Besides that, I am immensely proud of my heritage.
Like everyone else, I have had exceptionally good times, and hard times.
The hard times have not come from business - they have been great learning experiences, that only made me a better business person. They have come from personal relationships and love. The latter is singularly the most important emotion to ever experience. I place a lot of importance on love, being in love and showing love to strangers, family, friends and romantic interests.
I never weigh too much on friendships other than I am always there for the people in my life and always have their backs. But people are fickle, insecure, going through their own shit and sometimes they take a turn where they become not very nice people. Usually because their own life didn't pan out quite like they expected or they are comparing themselves to others. Some are just focused on trying to create a perception of who they think people want them to be. But the best kind of person is those who have got there and are comfortable in their own skin and forging ahead in life with one less thing to worry about.
Love however, is everything.
To experience love is to be granted the biggest gift in life, even if it doesn't last as long as one would have liked. Love throws caution into the wind. Love has no boundaries. Love gives of yourself and makes you more vulnerable and more real to the person you share that connection with, leaving you exposed. That exposure often leads to hurt should that love ever go away.
I think about love often.
I know that it is the most important thing you can get out of life. There is no business success that will ever compare. No holiday or amount of money that substitutes for the feeling of loving someone deeply.
My mission in life is not work, but love. And love comes out in so many ways. While without doubt loving a man is realizing all my dreams, it is also about loving myself and loving people that may never have the opportunity to ever meet with me and experience my love for them or the environment they live in first hand.
Doing my bit in this world and making it a better place is my destiny.
Helping the helpless. Feeding those who need to be fed. Ensuring that we are not polluting our waters and ruining the world we live in so future generations can enjoy the same experiences that we have been so fortunate to do so.
My dream is simple; to love, be loved and show love. This dream means so many things, and is where I am sitting right now. I can't help but smile as to how lucky I am, but as they say, you create your own love. At 42 years of age, I have learned a lot. I am stronger, more determined, kinder, more generous, authentic, honest, loyal and all the things you would hope you would be at this age. I believe in my ability to make the world a better place, and to do so, I have to fail a little, put myself out there more and stand up and use the voice I have been given.
For all of this, I am thankful beyond belief, and so happy that I wake up now with a smile on my face. Life is good, and it's only going to get better.
