Social Media Management For Event Planning

Simply put, social media is powerful because it brings people together. It’s like a party that never ends. And its social media that has completely changed the way people come together in the “real world”. Arab Spring back in 2010 illustrated the power of this online forum by revolutionizing revolution. The ALS water bucket challenge in 2014 spread like wildfire, leading to over $115 million donation dollars. Even Haiti was bombarded with millions of donations after they were hit with a 7.0 magnitude earthquake due to the virality social media can create. These events are obviously extreme in nature, but they prove my point, that social media can be a powerful tool to bring people together.

Just recently, a scientific study claimed that there’s a linear association between the number of social media platforms young people use and whether or not they show symptoms of anxiety and depression.

The journal, Computers and Human Behavior, points out that they surveyed nearly two thousand young adults using the Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System. The study revealed something that I think most would assume.

Facebook's Creepy New Feature

2 min read

Facebook knows where you live, and they’re willing to sell that information.

That’s right, Facebook has recently announced that they will be rolling out ad space that targets whole families, or specific people within a household. This is something every marketer is going to swoon over once they’re ready to go live.

I received a call yesterday of a man who was responding to a proposal that I had sent to him a week ago. The call came from the owner of a small firm doing business here in Atlanta and the conversation started off great. My original thought was he would ask me “where to sign”!

Rugby Hacks Social Media

5 min read

I was sitting in a Sports Clips just the other day and, as usual, I was waiting there in the sitting room for 5 hours. While contemplating whether or not to endure another day looking like I had a mop on my head, I looked up and saw ESPN featuring the USA vs Canada rugby match. It’s kind of a proud moment when rugby gets national exposure like that. Although NBC has been airing rugby matches ever since 2009 in the US, ESPN has marginalized the sport behind basketball, baseball, and football.

Snapchat just released a new update that allows for users to open up what they are calling a “Snap Map”.

This new feature is going to be huge for local businesses for a host of different reasons. Number one being that users can now look up stories by location. This means that if your company is streaming stories, a potential client of yours that’s nearby can open up their snap map and tune in.

I’m pretty sure Jeff Bezos is a genius. I mean when the guy was 3 years old he would take a part his crib in protest so that he could sleep in a real bed. At a young age, he built everything from robots, to crafts, to toys. Even today, he’s building a 10,000 year old clock (if you don’t know what it is check it out!).

And that clock symbolizes something much more than just a cool little weekend hobby the billionaire tech guru works on during weekends. It symbolizes his perspective of time. And that perspective transcends into his business decisions. Bezos said this in an interview about his clock:

Is Marketing Naked a Good Idea?

You know what they say? “If it tastes good, it’s not good for you”.

Well a PepsiCo brand supposedly taste way too good for its own good! They have just been sued by CSPI, America’s food watchdog, on the basis that their marketing tactics were misleading to the general public.

Is sustainable marketing the future?

shutterstock 220005958

It’s crunch time. No longer can marketing teams and their agencies disregard their organisational sustainability policies.  Any why do I think that?  Because we’ve had a few clangers lately.

Remember the Telstra iPhone 6 ad, where the man opens the packaging and throws it away so that a crab becomes stuck in it?  It's a terrible example of environmental responsibility and reinforces our overt consumerism.

‘Every risk is worth taking as long as it’s for a good cause and contributes to a good life’ Sir Richard Branson

It’s been a while since my last post when I decided to ditch my un-planned plan of travelling, chilling out, having some ‘me time’ (as the self help books would put it) and taking a breath. Let me tell you; I’ve been taking a lot of deep breaths in the last couple of months (into a paper bag at times) and it’s not that I haven’t thought about posting it’s just, well, I haven’t quite known how to articulate what’s been going on.
