You’ve been working in marketing for over 20 years, and there has been a lot of innovation during this time within the industry. What has been the most defining moment for you?
The most defining moment for me personally in marketing was when I went to my boss when I was just 17 years of age and asked if I could use the old Mac computer to write television scripts on instead of the typewriter because if he changed his mind on a word, or I made a typo, I would have to start from scratch. His name is Alex McCormack and at that time, he ran the most successful agency in Queensland. Why that was defining, more so than even the Internet per se, was the ability for bosses of that time to change their mindset to adapt to newer technologies to improve efficiencies. If you remember back then (25 years ago), bosses were “bosses”. That was the first step to now what is a very innovative, forward thinking company, and I have taken that memory with me everywhere.
